Shawarma bread — a simple homemade flatbread that puffs up in the pan to form a soft pocket. Perfect for stuffing with shawarma, falafel or your favourite fillings.

  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • Splash Water

Preparation

  1. Sieve the flour and add the baking powder, salt, sugar and oil, then mix together.
  2. Add water and knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
  3. Cover the dough and allow it to rise.
  4. Once risen, transfer to a work surface and form a round (you can use a plate or pot lid as a guide).
  5. Heat your pan and place the bread in.
  6. It will start puffing, then turn it over.
  7. Lastly, put it in a warm place, and you'll see it has formed a pocket.
