Syrian rice with meat — fragrant rice cooked with spiced ground beef, warm allspice and cinnamon, topped with buttery toasted pine nuts. A comforting, aromatic Middle Eastern staple.

  • 2 Pounds Ground Beef
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 5 Cups Chicken Stock
  • 2 cups Rice
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 cup Pine Nuts
Syrian Rice with Meat

Preparation

  1. Heat ¼ cup butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and season with the salt, allspice, cinnamon and black pepper. Cook and stir until browned and crumbly, 7 to 10 minutes.
  2. Stir the chicken broth and rice into the beef and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook until the liquid is absorbed, about 20 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, melt 2 tablespoons butter in a small skillet over medium heat and cook the pine nuts, stirring, until lightly browned, 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Mix the pine nuts into the beef-rice mixture before serving.
